Spring 2017 President’s Message
March 28th, 2017
Greetings Brotherhood Community,
With the school year beginning to wrap up, I wanted to communicate a few updates regarding The Brotherhood. This academic year has been an exciting one for the organization, with it reaching its ten-year anniversary, the third annual Smoky Hill Brotherhood summit, record-breaking contributions and new partnerships. With all of your hard work, this school year has been a bright one for the organization, and we have made great strides toward achieving success. As many of you may know, The Brotherhood has been working with Mentor Colorado over the last year to build the Chapter Handbook, which gives high schools the tools needed to start and operate a Brotherhood chapter. This handbook includes lesson plans, materials, policies and procedures for chapters to run smoothly and also accommodates for the organization’s succession with student and advisor changes.
We have completed a first draft of the handbook and Mentor Colorado will be working with us over the next three months to create a final copy. We expect the handbook to be complete for the 2017-2018 academic year. Over the next few months, we will be enlisting feedback from chapter advisors, students, alumni, school faculty, staff, and administrators. I ask that everyone take part of this process. Your input is vital to the success and future of this program. The consultant will be reaching out to chapters over the next few months and is already working with District Leadership. More information will come out over the next few weeks, so please check your email.
I would also like to announce a few leadership changes made over the last few months. I am pleased to announce our newest cabinet member Yvette Rolison, Vice President of Budget and Finance and CFO. Yvette comes to us with lots of experience, knowledge, and skill; I am confident in her undertaking this role. With this significant gain, comes a great loss. I regret to announce that Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President Daniel Wetmore will be stepping down from the organization in June. Daniel has served on my cabinet since 2013, and I am tremendously thankful for his time, energy, and insight that he has given to the organization. Daniel will be truly missed in the group. With this change, we will begin the search process for his replacement over the next month. We are expecting to have the Chief of Staff on board before the start of the new fiscal year. More information will follow soon.
The Brotherhood also reached record number contributions this academic year. As of March, The Brotherhood has received over $10,000 in funding including grants, corporate sponsorships, donations, and in-kind gifts and services. This achievement shows the growth and sustainability of the organization, and I am excited to put it into action next year.
I am also pleased to announce that we have launched a new version of our website. The website has been updated with images we collected over the last few years with an excellent new design. We have also revamped some of the content and navigation of the site. This ensures better web standards and allows for easy design changes over time. The new website is built on a more secure platform with enterprise level support. The new website also allows for chapter advisor/school staff to update their individual chapter site with just a few clicks.
Lastly, I just wanted to give kudos and thanks to Chief of Staff Wetmore and Chief Advisory Gregory-McGhee. Both have stepped in since September as I took a leave of absence over the last six months due to health concerns. These gentlemen have been critical in keeping things moving in my absence, and I’m truly grateful to have them on my team. I want to ensure everyone that I am doing well and will be returning to the organization full-time this spring. I look forward to working with everyone as we end the school year and begin another. Let's make it a good one and continue to Achieve Success.
President, Chair of the Board of Trustees
